Apartment:

A room or suite of rooms designed as a residence and generally located in a building occupied by more than one household.

Townhouse:

A townhouse is a two-level unit with the bedrooms on the second floor, usually found in multi-unit buildings.

Duplex:

A duplex usually consists of two-units in side-by-side properties that share one common wall.   Also, duplexes can be a single family house with two apartments, one upstairs and one downstairs.

Condo:

Condos are individually owned units within a complex and the exterior grounds are maintained by the condominium association.  Condos can be very similar to residing in an apartment.

Studio:

A studio is an apartment with a living/bedroom space, a kitchen, and a bathroom.

Loft:

A dwelling unit typically within or above a renovated commercial building or warehouse, usually with exposed beams or brick and features up-scale finishes.

Efficiency:

This unit is similar to a studio, but smaller in size.   Efficiencies do not have full kitchens, but come with a microwave and a dorm-sized fridge.
